Bayern Munich provide injury update ahead of World Cup

Bayern Munich have released a statement regarding Alphonso Davies’ fitness amid fears he could miss the World Cup with a hamstring problem.

Davies is expected to be one of the stars of the tournament after helping lead Canada to their first World Cup finals appearance since 1986.

However, alarm bells were ringing over his participation after he suffered a hamstring injury in Bayern’s win over Hertha Berlin last week.

The Bundesliga champions, though, have calmed those fears and confirmed that although Davies is not going to play any club football until 2023, he is not expected to miss the World Cup.

“FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for the two remaining Bundesliga games prior to the winter break,” the club said in a statement.

“The 22-year-old full-back suffered a hamstring strain in the 3-2 win at Hertha BSC on Saturday.

“The diagnosis was confirmed by the German record champions’ medical unit. The Canada international’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar is not at risk.”

Canada have a tough group in Qatar, where they will face Belgium, Croatia and Morocco.

Headlining the CanMNT alongside Davies will be in-demand Lille forward Jonathan David and combative Porto midfielder Stephen Eustaquio.
