Ban Ki-moon To Buhari: Your Handling Of Insecuirty In Nigeria Commendable

A former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-moon, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for dealing with insecurity and other challenges facing the country.

Naija News reports that the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

The presidential spokesman stated that the former diplomat commended the Nigerian leader in a phone call on Monday afternoon.

Garba said Ki-moon appreciated President Buhari for giving his support to the current UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed,  and his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, while he was with the UN.

The former UN Secretary-General asserted that the two prominent Nigerians were among the best he had ever worked with.

Shehu stated that the president also expressed appreciation to Ban Ki-Moon for his commitment to the progress and socio-economic development of Nigeria.

The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari Monday afternoon spoke to Ban Ki-Moon over the phone and said Nigeria is in full appreciation to the former United Nations Secretary-General for his commitment towards the progress and socio-economic development of Nigeria.

“President Buhari reiterated his long-standing respect and admiration for the two-time UN Scribe and thanked him for initiating the call.

“Ban Ki-Moon commended the President for his handling of security and related challenges facing the country.

“He expressed appreciation for the support of two prominent citizens of Nigeria – Professor Ibrahim Gambari, President’s Chief of Staff and one-time UN Undersecretary-General, and Mrs Amina Mohammed, the current Deputy Secretary-General – saying that they are among the best he had ever worked with.”
