Ayu May Clash With Wike, Makinde, Ortom, Others As PDP Launches 2023 Campaign In Benue

Atiku: Details Emerge As Wike, Makinde, Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu, Ortom Meet In Benue

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, may clash with the five aggrieved governors of the party if he decided to attend the launch of the party’s 2023 campaign.

Naija News reports that the aggrieved governors popularly known as the G-5include Nyesom Wike, Rivers; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu; Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia; Seyi Makinde, Oyo and Ortom.

They are backed by Donald Duke, Jonah Jang, Ibrahim Dakwanmbo, Segun Mimiko, Ayo Fayose, former governors of Cross River, Plateau, Gombe, Ondo, and Ekiti states respectively, as well as Chief Olabode George, Professor Jerry Gana, Mohammed Adoke amongst others.

The aggrieved party members had pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign, demanding the removal or resignation of the party’s national chairman before campaigning for Atiku.

According to them, Ayu had promised that he would resign his position if a northerner emerged as the presidential candidate of the PDP.

The main opposition party has been unable to resolve the crisis with both camps engaging in a media war despite several attempts by highly-placed individuals and groups to put an end to the dispute.

It was gathered that the G-5 governors would want to use the Benue campaign launch to make a strong statement in the stand-off with Ayu and PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

However, it could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report, if a formal invitation was extended to the national chairman, who hails from Benue, or if he would be attending the event.

According to Daily Sun, a source disclosed that the campaign council being launched is different from the PDP state presidential council.

He explained that it is purely the show of the G-5 governors, adding that if Ayu was invited and he decides to honour the invitation, there may be a clash between him and the governors.

A source close to Governor Ortom told Daily Sun that it was for the state chapter of the PDP to invite Ayu to the function, saying, “I am sure that the party must have invited him. He is the national chairman. If he comes, his presence will be well acknowledged.”
