Aston Villa silences Crystal Palace, Wilfred Zaha as final day Gerrard-Manchester City showdown looms

The Steven Gerrard-led side played a 1-1 draw at home to Wilfred Zaha’s Crystal Palace with Ollie Watkins (69′) and Jeffrey Schlupp (81′) getting on the scoresheet.

With both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace having nothing more to fight for in the Premier League this season, the football at Villa Park had more significance to other teams rather than to them.

Wilfred Zaha in particular had an uninteresting match, as the Crystal Palace forward seemed off-kilter for most of the match.

The Ivorian showman did not have his tricks come up for him against Aston Villa as only one (1) of his seven (7) attempted dribbles was successful.

All match, Zaha completed only 12 successful passes (63.2%), played only one (1) key pass, and lost 17 of the 25 duels he contested.

In attacking figures, the Crystal Palace ace had only one (1) shot on target and had one (1) shot blocked for the entire duration of the match.

With Sunday’s draw, Aston Villa are now 12th on the Premier League log with 44 points from 36 matches.

Aston Villa’s remaining league matches are against Burnley (H) on May 19 and Manchester City (A) on the final day of the season.

Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United on Sunday leaves them just four points ahead of Liverpool with only one match left in the race for the Premier League title.

Gerrard could hand Liverpool the title if he picks up at least a draw at Etihad Stadium on Sunday and if Liverpool win both of their outstanding matches against Southampton (A) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (H).
