APC Primary: Buhari, Presidential Aspirants, Govs, NWC Up For High-level Talks

President Buhari Meets Service Chiefs, Issues Fresh Directives After Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC 2023 presidential primary elections, President Muhammadu Buhari would on Tuesday meet with aspirants and other stakeholders for high-level talks, Naija News reports.

Sources had told The Nation that the meeting was paramount to outline modalities for a hitch-free primary and how to promote cohesion in the ruling party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Also meeting with the leader are Governors elected on the platform of the APC, National Assembly leaders and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) members, Naija News understands.

The NWC according to reports, will present the list of members of the Presidential Screening Committee to President Buhari on Tuesday (today).

The Organising Directorate of the party was said to have compiled the list of members of the Presidential Screening Committee (PSC) and committees to handle the three primaries slated for Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

It was gathered that the committees were ratified by NWC at its meeting yesterday.

Also, the NWC resolved that the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu should present the list of the committees to the President before making it public.

Naija News recalls that the ruling party on Monday, again, adjusted its timetable for its governorship, State House of Assembly and House of Representatives primary elections ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The revised Timetable/Schedule of Activities was approved by the party’s NWC. This is as it also postponed the screening of presidential aspirants for the second time.

Its National Organising Secretary, Suliaman Arugungu, had on Sunday said the screening earlier slated for yesterday, will hold today.

Subsequently, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed in a press release yesterday that the exercise had been put on hold, adding that a new date will be announced as soon as a date is agreed upon.

He said: “I started the exercise yesterday. The screening of presidential aspirants is on hold. It is not held on Tuesday. I will announce the new date as soon as a decision is reached to that effect.”

A statement by Morka said state delegates will elect governorship candidates on Thursday, while House of Assembly candidates will be elected by local government delegates on the same day.

The senatorial primary will hold on Friday and the House of Representative’s shadow election earlier slated for May 26, will hold at federal constituency headquarters on Saturday.

The statement said the presidential primary will be held as scheduled on Sunday.

Governors on the platform of APC, who met last night in Abuja will today meet with President Buhari to discuss their position on the presidential primary”, the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the party had on Monday briefed the leadership of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) after inaugurating the Ekiti State Governorship Campaign Council at the party secretariat, Naija News reports.
