APC Confirms PDP Senator, Nnamani Is Working For Tinubu Presidency

2023: APC Confirms PDP Senator, Nnamani Is Working For Tinubu Presidency

The drama surrounding the inclusion of a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Chimaroke Nnamani in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has gone up by another notch.

This is as the APC presidential council director of media, Bayo Onanuga on Monday confirmed that the inclusion of Nnamani in its list is not a mistake.

The APC presidential campaign council also assured state governors on the party’s platform that nominations submitted by them have not been discarded.

Naija News recalls the inclusion of Nnamani, a serving senator and member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the APC campaign list caused a stir.

The APC council, has now released fresh details about the development, with claims that the Enugu lawmaker is working for the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The statement released to that effect by Onanuga reads; “The PCC will also want to clarify that the appearance of the name of HE Chimaroke Nnamani, a distinguished senator from Enugu State, was not a mistake.

“He is on the list in his own right as a supporter of our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Nnamani Remains PDP Candidate

It was however pointed out in the statement that Nnamani remains a member of the PDP and the party’s senatorial candidate for Enugu East but can’t be stopped from supporting his friend, Tinubu.

“He may not be on the field with us as a PDP senatorial candidate in Enugu East, but his presence is indicative that he may have chosen to give ‘moral support’ to his old-time friend and brother,” the statement added.

“In any case, the PCC cannot dictate the extent of Senator Nnamani’s support for his friend and brother.

“That is part of his fundamental human right which supersedes any provision in a Party Constitution. His position and allegiance to his party is self-defining and does not need any qualification by us.”

We Are Proud To Be Associated With Him

The APC statement added that the party is proud to be associated with Nnamani and won’t care too much about providing further explanation regarding his role.

It said; “Any explanation as to his status should be coming from the other party and not from us who are very proud to be associated with him.”

We Will Add Other Names

The party stated that other people will be added to the presidential campaign list which already has over 400 names.

“The Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress hereby clarifies that the list of members of the campaign council released at the weekend, is a partial list.

“It contains only the directors, deputy directors, secretaries of directorates and key stakeholders.

“The council also assures our esteemed governors that the secretariat of the council has not jettisoned the names submitted by them,” Onanuga said.

Contradictory Statement

Earlier, the All Progressives Congress, Presidential Campaign Council, (APCPCC), clarified that the name of the former Governor of Enugu State, Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani which appeared on the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council was an error.

Naija News reports that the serving lawmaker’s name appeared in a list released on Friday, where he was listed as one of the members of the Local Government Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

Chimaroke’s name appeared barely a month ago, after the former governor of Enugu state was praising the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, for his sagacity and style of politics extolling his status as a performer.

Speaking on the development, the spokesman of the APC presidential campaign council, Bayo Onanuga on Saturday, said that the person intended to be added and represented by Chimaroke Nnamani, was the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.
