Anxiety As INEC Allegedly Moves Governorship Declaration Venue To Abuja

There is much tension in the air following reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reportedly moved the venue for the declaration of the Governor-elect in Abia State to Abuja.

A source that spoke with Daily Post on the development claimed that the winner of the governorship election would be announced in Abuja.

There had been a delay to announce the winner of the election at the INEC headquarters in Umuahia three days after the conclusion of voting.

Among INEC officials moving to Abuja are Prof Nnenna Oti, the Returning Officer, Clement Oha, the Administration Secretary and other Returning Officers.

High-ranking officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) from Abia also jetted out to Abuja for the declaration.

The collation of Obingwa results was moved to Tuesday after controversies erupted in the state following alleged overvoting and the invasion of the Obingwa INEC office by political thugs.

INEC in a statement released on Monday disclosed that its team from Abuja will be in Abia on Tuesday to review results from Obingwa LGA and other some other areas of the state.

However, officials of the electoral body in a bid to operate from a safe and convenient ground reportedly moved to Abuja.

The platform claimed that the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Abia, Bamidele Oyetunji confirmed that top INEC officials in Abia State ‘Travelled to Abuja for a briefing”.

Bamidele, however, did not reveal if the governorship results will be announced in Abuja or not.
