Another Lawmaker To Dump APC, Set To Join SDP

The massive defections currently rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not come to an end any time soon, with opposition parties snapping up members of the ruling party.

Hon. Abubakar Sarki Dahiru, representing Lafia/Obi federal constituency, has become the latest member of the ruling party to announce his resignation.

Naija News exclusively gathered that Hon. Dahiru is plotting to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

A reliable source told this newspaper that Dahiru, who haven’t officially announced his new party, may pitch his tent with Hon. Ahmed Wadada, a former House of Representatives member and prominent member of the APC and Hon. Jonathan Gaza, a two-term serving member of the House of Representatives representing Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, who recently joined the SDP.

Hon. Dahiru, in a letter dated June 10th and addressed to the APC chairman in Zanwa Ward, Laura, said he decided to leave the party due to injustice.

“I hereby write to notify you of the withdrawal of my membership No NW/LFA/08/22701. This is due to the injustice done to me by the party.

“I thank you for the opportunity given to me to serve the good people of Lafia/Obi federal constituency,” the letter obtained by Naija News read.

Naija News reports that Dahiru was defeated in the APC primary election by Muhammed A. A Al-Makura, nephew to former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura.

Announcing the result, the returning officer Dr. Musa Ogah-Ari, said Muhammed Al-Makura scored 36 votes to defeat the incumbent house of reps member, Abubakar Sarki Dahiru who scored a total of 32 votes while Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu polled 23 votes.

M. A. A Almakura was once a two term member of the house of reps from 2003 to 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sources told Naija News that Senator Al-Makura did not influence the victory of his nephew, stressing that the “power of money defeated Dahiru and with the fact that the constituency is also fed up with him.”
