Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has admitted his disappointment towards the money-driven nature of transfer negotiations, amid uncertainty over the future of star winger Antony.
Antony has been pushing for a move to Manchester United and, as a result, was left out of Sunday’s matchday squad to face Utrecht, during which it emerged that a €100m agreement had been reached between the two clubs.
Schreuder has been determined to keep Antony at the club but, after victory over Utrecht, he admitted his disappointment towards the situation, in what appeared to be in reference to Antony’s desire to join United.
“Nowadays, everything is about money,” he told ESPN. “I find this sad, but this is our world.
“It is very sad and I don’t approve of the things that are happening here.”

Later, Schreuder was asked whether he wished to change his belief that Antony would remain at the club.
“I stand by those words,” he said defiantly.
However, when asked by a journalist whether he had heard the update of a fee being reached, Schreuder immediately changed the subject, stating: “I want to talk about the game, not about Antony. I have said more than enough about this.”
