2023: PDP Planning To Deregister APC Through The Back Door

APC Convention: PDP Looking For Back-door To Power – Keyamo

The spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo has described a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an attempt to deregister the ruling party through the back door.

Keyamo said the opposition PDP is seeking an easy ride back to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in 2023 but will be shocked back to reality.

He stated this in his reaction to a fresh suit by the PDP asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to sack the APC National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdullahi Adamu.

Naija News reports that PDP accused the ruling party of illegality in the process that produced the party’s national officers and candidates.

The suit filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ayo Kamaldeen Ajibade, on PDP’S behalf, demanded that all candidates produced by APC for the 2023 general elections be disqualified from the race, having been allegedly produced in breach and gross violation of the 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act 2022.

It is predicated on a judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on September 30, 2022, which declared as illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional all actions and activities of Governor Mai Mala Buni as the Chairman of the Extraordinary Convention Committee of the APC.

However, Keyamo said the PDP suit is an attempt to crash the entire structure of the APC but the party is ready to oppose the move in court.

He said as quoted by Punch: “They want the easiest route to power by filing a laughable case in court calling to disqualify all our candidates, from presidential to governorship and senatorial, including the NWC. They think that will give them an easy walk into the Aso Rock Villa. They have a shock treatment awaiting them.

“We will meet them in court. They are merely planning to deregister the APC through the back door. We are talking about our entire party structure here. How is that done? How can you deregister a ruling party with the majority and deny Nigerians their right to choose who they want? Not through the backdoor.”

Similarly, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the PDP is already aware it will fail in the 2023 election and is only looking for other ways to get back to power.

He said, “Again, that’s the PDP setting itself on a phantom and vain expedition. Although I do not know that our party has been served with any such court process, just based on media reports, it is obvious the PDP is rightly convinced of its failed 2023 engagement.”
