The National Women’s Soccer League Draft took place on January 12, seeing 48 players join 12 different teams.
Angel City kicked off by selecting Alyssa Thompson as the number 1 overall pick, making her the first high school player ever to be drafted into the NWSL. The expansion team acquired the inaugural pick earlier this week, after sending Yazmeen Ryan and $250,000 in Allocation Money to Gotham FC in exchange for the draft position.
The 2023 edition also saw six goalkeepers come into the league, the most ever to be drafted since the NWSL’s creation in 2013.
