'2023 Is The Fight Of Our Lives'

Nigerian singer, Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy or Area Fada has opined that the salvation of the country lies in the hands of the ‘exceptional youths’.

The singer made this known, in an exclusive interview with Naija News, stating that the 2023 election is the fight for the lives of the masses.

Addressing the statement from the opposition parties that the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has no structure to win an election, Charly Boy said that has been the story and divisive techniques for the past 52 years.

The songwriter admitted that his generation is guilty of the current problems in the country adding that it has become more difficult to remove the old political leaders from power.

In his words: “Well, we have heard the same news for the past 52 years, it has been the same divisive techniques, it’s from the same old people, they deal with the religion, and big cities but I think that Nigerians are sick and tired of it all.

“Nigerians want better, let me add that somehow, my generation is guilty and I have already apologized, for seeing the red flag, knowing the red flag yet insistent on the ‘My Thief is better than your thief’ mentality and this is why we are here.

“It is the reason why the political environment has been overtaken by vagabonds and people who have no deal with leadership and now it’s becoming a lot difficult to do away with these vagabonds in power. This is the fight of our lives and I believe, like I will always say that the salvation of this country lies in the hands of exceptional youths.

Reacting to the current trends of political parties handing tickets to some celebrities and the possibility of winning elections, the singer said people should look beyond political parties and focus on the character of the individuals.

He said: “I don’t know, I really don’t know, I have always had faith in the Nigerian exceptional youths, I don’t expect everybody to be on the same page at the same time but I know that the salvation of Nigeria lies in the hand of the exceptional people. Wherever they want to go, that is where you will find me as their area father.

“I don’t think it’s about political parties, I think it’s about the character of the individuals, that is what it should be about and that is what I feel people are agitating for, hence the euphoria.”
