2023 Elections: Top APC Governorship Aspirants Who Withdrew From Race [Full List]

Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted its governorship primaries across many states on Thursday.

Naija News reports that the primary gubernatorial elections were conducted in line with the revised schedule of activities/timetable released by the APC leadership on Tuesday.

The elections took place a few days before the party’s Special Congress to elect its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.

While some of the aspirants were declared the winner of the exercise, others withdrew from the governorship race for some reasons.

See below a list of states and governorship aspirants who withdraw from the race

Magnus Abe (Rivers)

The former lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe on Thursday withdrew from the governorship primary of the APC in the state.

The ruling party had scheduled its governorship primary election and State House of Assembly held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

The development was disclosed by a former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Tony Okocha, in a statement made available to newsmen.

Okocha revealed that Abe would not participate in the party’s primary because the process is skewed and biased.

Alex Otti (Abia)

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Abia State, Alex Otti, announced his intentions to withdraw from the governorship primary election of the party on Wednesday.

In a statement on Wednesday by his spokesman, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the renowned banker said his withdrawal from the governorship primaries stems from the fact that the outcome of the election was already predetermined.

He said the decision was taken after due consultation with his supporters, stakeholders, and respected leaders of the APC within and outside the state.

Al’ameen Sani Mohammed (Bauchi)

One of the leading gubernatorial aspirants of the ruling APC in Bauchi State, Al’ameen Sani Mohammed, withdrew from the race on Thursday.

He announced his withdrawal a few hours before the conduct of the exercise at a press conference held at the NUJ Press Center, Bauchi.

Mohammed said that regardless of the money spent so far on his campaign, his withdrawal was geared towards promoting unity in the party.
