2023: Buhari Reveals Candidate He Would Support To Emerge As Next President

Buhari To Chair Bola Tinubu Colloquium In Lagos

President Muhammadu Buhari has taken a stand on the candidate he would endorse for the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.

Speaking during a recent interview with Bloomberg News, President Buhari declared that he would support the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports the APC candidate for the 2023 election is former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Asked during the interview if he plans to endorse any candidate for president and who the person would be, President Buhari replied in the affirmative.

“Yes. I will endorse the APC candidate for president,” the Nigerian leader declared.

It will be recalled that Tinubu emerged as the APC presidential candidate after winning the party’s primary election concluded on 8th June, 2022.

The APC national leader polled 1,271 votes to defeat 13 other aspirants, including a former Transport Minister, Rotimi Ameachi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who scored 316 and 235 votes respectively.

With Tinubu’s victory, he will square up against PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, NNPP’s Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other candidates from other parties for a chance to succeed President Buhari in 2023.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday 25th February 2023 for the conduct of the presidential election.
