10th NASS: North Central deserves nothing less than Senate Presidency – Senator Sani Musa

Senator representing Niger North Senatorial District, Sani Musa on Tuesday said the North Central geopolitical zone deserves the office of the Senate President.

Speaking with National Assembly correspondents, he said, the North Central has always been aligning with the governing party and has always given massive votes, as their votes for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the just concluded Presidential and parliamentary elections were more than any of the geographical zones of the country.

He, however, said the decision lies with the APC leadership, pointing out that the issue of Muslim-Muslim may be taken into consideration in order to balance religious sentiments.

He disclosed that the APC, at a meeting in the Villa, advised them to hold back their ambitions till the release of zoning, hence, he will wait before officially declaring his ambition for the office zoned to the North Central.

Musa said: “This is a real ambush. Why don’t you wait till when I will make my declaration, but since you decide to ask me, I will say, there is no office deserved to be zoned to the North Central than the Office of the Senate President.

“As a party loyalist, and having an interaction with the party leadership before the governorship and House of Assembly elections at the presidential Villa, the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu requested that we all keep our intentions until when the party decides to release the zoning formula.

“Be that as it may, and as we can all see the Muslim-Muslim ticket, which am sure will be addressed, we will queue in and decide to make our declaration.

“Just as I said earlier, I would not want to pre-empt the party, I will wait for the decision of the party.

“Whatever is the interest of the North Central as one of the geopolitical zones that gave the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the highest votes. If you look at the difference we gave to APC and the votes we gave to PDP, we have the largest.

“And these things have been happening for a very long time. Each time we align with the governing party in the North Central, so I believe by the time they deal with the zoning, we will be able to see what is left for us.”

The lawmaker in the upper legislative chamber maintained that he will make himself available if the party leadership in their wisdom zones the Office of the Senate President to the North Central.

He believed that the governing party will be fair enough to the North Central, a development, he said will define the ambitions of some of them.

“I do know there will be nothing less than the Deputy Senate President because that is what will be fair to us. And if you ask me about my ambition. Every human being have ambition. I intend to come in order to save our Constitution and democracy in this country. You are all witnesses to what is going on in this country, particularly, imbalances.”
